Mindset - Creative Confidence
Why is culture important?
Lim Chee Yee TP070501
Culture is important because it shapes how people grow socially and mentally, influences how they see the world and helps define unusual behaviors and wrongdoing (Watson, 2022). It also affects whether societies thrive or fail, as certain moral values passed down through culture can either weaken or support the greater good and cooperation among large groups. Moreover, culture is vital in teaching and learning languages because it sets the guidelines for behaving appropriately within a group (Rose, 2018). Human culture is special and necessary for human relationships, allowing people to work together and cooperate in large groups (Gelfand & Kashima, 2016). Additionally, culture influences organizations, as a strong culture may include qualities like creativity and risk-taking that can be useful in evolving situations. In summary, culture plays a significant role in personal growth, societal prosperity, language acquisition, human conduct, and organizational operations.
Do you think Facebook overpaid for WhatsApp? Why?
Chan Hong Yu TP070216 & Sehneel Ansari binti Naeem Ahmed Ansari TP072191
In my opinion, Facebook did not overpay for WhatsApp. Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion, which is roughly $42 for every WhatsApp user (Cook,2014). To put this into comparison, Google paid $1.65 billion back in time to purchase YouTube, which roughly equals to paying $48 for each user (Cook,2014). Excluding the amount paid, the acquisition for WhatsApp is strategically important for Facebook. This is said because WhatsApp is growing drastically and becoming very competitive in the market, posing threat to Facebook. By acquiring WhatsApp, Facebook can use this asset to enhance their advantage and have an edge over other competitors in the industry. Besides that, WhatsApp is more globally connected compared to Facebook (Edwards,2014). Users from all around the world uses WhatsApp daily to communicate with others whilst Facebook is mainly used in America. Mark Zuckerberg and his team did create Messenger to try and compete with WhatsApp but unfortunately the application failed to reach its highest potential (Kerravala,2014). WhatsApp is also more mature as an application compared to Messenger, providing more functions and availability to its users as it has been developed for a longer time. Moreover, young teenagers now have slowly stopped associating themselves with Facebook and uses application like WhatsApp to connect with people (Kerravala,2014). They find Facebook “uncool” and “outdated” hence would use a different communication medium (Kerravala, 2014).
What are some of the problems bringing in new investors?
Tan E Jane TP070961 & Ng Hwee Meng TP071421
First problem is communication. It is important to maintain transparent and effective communication with both existing and potential investors, but it can be challenging, particularly if there are sensitive issues or disagreements when there are lots of different minds. (Tellers, 2017) Next, new investors may be hesitant and worried to invest in a company they are not familiar with. Moreover, fearing of the uncertainty gains is a barrier for new investors to limit themselves in investment. (Foroux, 2024) New investors may feel unsecure at the beginning, thinking that investment is a high-risk activity which they might lose money. Nonetheless, overload of information is also a problem for new investors. Due to the lack of knowledge in investment, they will do as many as research they could to avoid any lose. Too much information will confuse their mind in making decisions and lower their efforts. (Rassolli, 2024)
